Self catering holiday house in Tuscany, Chianti region near Florence
Owners direct rental
San Casciano in Val di Pesa
(Florence province) Italy
Holiday house "Il Visciolo" is a typical Tuscan cottage situated in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, a Chianti village in the province of Florence.
The country house to rent is a converted barn (fienile in Italian) preserving the original aspect. Il Visciolo is a two-storey detached house, not an apartment, with a dominant position over the Chianti hills. Chianti is a geographical area in Tuscany, between Florence and Siena, famous for its landscapes and agricultural products (mostly wine and extra virgin olive oil).
The vacation rental is managed by ourselves owners; we live in a next door farmhouse and we can help regarding travel tips, giving you information on places to visit, where to eat and to shop. In the single-family detached home for rent, at guests' disposal, there are some books, maps and travel guides in English about Florence and Tuscany.
The holiday house has been restored by ourselves following the traditional style of Tuscan country houses, keeping intact the exterior appearance. Large arch shaped windows allow a wonderful view of the Chianti landscape from both stories. A stone floored open space in front of the groundfloor rooms lets you to relax and sunbathe. You can also have meals outside under the gazebo sitting at a four seats table and using a stone and cotto (old bricks) barbecue.
The garden surrounding the house is full of olive trees that gives our family a fine extra virgin oil for ourselves and our friends.
The holiday house is 350 metres (382 yards) from the main square of San Casciano in Val di Pesa, and 16 Km (9.5 miles) from the historic centre of Florence.
San Casciano in Val di Pesa is a lively Tuscan village offering all facilities for tourists, connected to Florence and Siena by efficient public transports so that you can avoid using the car (parking is often a problem in those cities). The travel by extra-urban bus from San Casciano to Florence centre — and the opposite — takes about thirty to fourtyfive minutes.
The trip to Siena by coach is longer (one hour and half) and you have to change buses in Poggibonsi.
Country cottage Il Visciolo is not isolated in the open country, the property is not fenced and the back faces other San Casciano VP houses. That gives the opportunity to move without a car approaching other tourist places or enjoying the facilities the village itself offers. Our vacation home is the ideal accommodation for your holiday in Tuscany, being so close to Firenze/Florence and the other charming Chianti villages like Greve, Panzano, Radda, Gaiole et cetera.
From the holiday house there are just four kilometres (about seven minutes by car) to the entrance of RA03 (a dual carriageway) towards Florence (see map) and 3.4 Km (five minutes by car) to reach the entrance towards Siena (see). Taking the RA03 freeway you can reach in few minutes the entrance of Autostrada A1, a toll motorway that connects Florence to the south (Rome) and the north of Italy (Milan, Bologna, Venice). Il Visciolo is in a perfect position even for those who want to visit those italian cities. More information about road distancies are on the location page.
Il Visciolo is an excellent location for your trips in and outside Tuscany. As an example, Rome and Venice can be reached by public transport in less than three hours. Just reach Florence's Firenze Santa Maria Novella train station (about thirty minutes) by SITA coach and from there get a fast train to your final destination. A fast train takes one hour and half to reach Roma Termini (main Rome station), two hours to Venice.
Minimum booking length is usually one week, there are exception, see the prices page for full details. We accept medium/long term rental (multi-weekly or montly rent), and discount are given for long stays.
Please note that "Il Visciolo" is a self catering accommodation, not an agriturismo, nor a bed&breakfast or an hotel. We cannot provide any professional service, food or meals to our guests but we do provide bedding, linen and weekly cleanings.
Converted barn Il Visciolo is part of property called "I Chisci", consisting of a small group of three buildings, together with an old villa dating back to 1300 in its original part and a farmhouse in which we live.
Il Visciolo is a detached house (single-family home) finely furnished in the old Tuscan country style. It is about 80 square metres (862 square feet) large, on two levels.
